Bachelor's-to-Master's Pathways (BMAPs)

The School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics offers a Bachelor’s to Master’s Accelerated Pathway (BMAP) for the following:

  • M.S. in Computer Science
  • M.S. in Data Science*
*(pending approval from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV))

Students wishing to apply for this option should meet with the Director of Graduate Studies in their program to discuss the requirements and steps needed to apply to the pathway.

The BMAP allows undergraduate students to take graduate coursework that can count for both their undergraduate and graduate degree at William & Mary. An additional benefit of this option is that the graduate coursework may be covered by financial aid (please consult your Financial Aid Counselor for details). Up to 18 credit hours of graduate coursework may be applied to both the undergraduate and graduate degrees.

CDSP BMAP Requirements:

  • All undergraduate students must have at least a 3.0 overall GPA at the time of application to the BMAP.
  • Admission to the BMAP does not guarantee admission to the master's degree program. Students must still meet the requirements to be admitted to the graduate program. You must also apply to the master’s program. Your graduate program will advise you on the proper time to apply.
  • Individual programs may have additional requirements beyond what CDSP requires above. Please consult your program of interest for further details.

Application and Acceptance:

  • Students wishing to apply to the BMAP must submit a BMAP Application Form (sample PDF) by the deadlines published below.
  • Once accepted into the BMAP, students will complete the BMAP Double Count Form (sample PDF) to be registered for the desired graduate courses that double count between their undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Deadlines:

  • A BMAP Application Form may be submitted when a student is a social Junior or Senior, but before the start of the semester in which their undergraduate degree is awarded.
    • Applications must be submitted no later than the first day of classes of the Fall or Spring semester for a BMAP acceptance to apply to that semester. Otherwise, acceptance to the BMAP will become effective in the semester that immediately follows.
  • Undergraduate students must submit BMAP Double Count Forms by the add/drop date  of each semester that they are enrolled in the BMAP. Be sure to include any previously approved double counted courses on the Double Count Form.
    • Double Count Forms received after the add/drop date for the semester will only be processed with the approval of the CDSP Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies.
