DeanCast

DeanCast is hosted by Doug Schmidt, the Dean of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics at William & Mary. In each episode Doug talks with a member of the W&M community - both past and present - to explore the research questions that drive them, the discoveries that excite them, the experiences they’ve had as teachers and students, and the societal impact of their work.

Our goal is to make cutting-edge research and teaching more visible, more human, and more connected to the public. Whether it’s quantum materials, AI safety, climate data, computational neuroscience, ethical design, or beyond — if it’s shaping the future, we want to talk about it.

Tack Lecture: Surfing the AI Wave

Dr. Douglas C. Schmidt, Inaugural Dean of the School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics presented "Surfing the AI Wave: A Human-Centered Approach to Innovation and Ethics" at the Spring 2025 Tack Lecture.
