Undergraduate Academics
The School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics (CDSP) offers STEM-focused degree programs that prepare students for dynamic careers or postgraduate studies that span the physical and life sciences.
CDSP constituent departments include Applied Science, Computer Science, Data Science, and Physics as the name of the school well represents. These departments emphasize computational thinking and skills, offering majors and minors, as well as interdisciplinary programs to suit a wide array of interests and career trajectories.
Emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning infuse the curricula in Data Science and Computer Science. These units also offer programs that reach out to the humanities in the Arts & Sciences.
Physics and Applied Science provide basic training in physical sciences and closely related fields of study with a view to direct application, including materials science and engineering.
Life science disciplines like genomic data science, bioengineering, and synthetic biology are taught in both Data Science and Applied Science, with new programs emerging as these cross-disciplinary fields evolve with computational and experimental techniques that are constantly evolving too.
CDSP hosts the campus MakerSpaces that provide tools, resources, and training for prototyping, fabrication, engineering, and artistic creation.
Research experiences and mentorship are integral to undergraduate student training in CDSP. Students often find semester research training as well as deeper summer research experiences for some. The curricula are flexible to encourage broad participation in the liberal arts and study abroad programs offered during the academic year and summers.
All undergraduate programs in CDSP culminate in a capstone experience in which students gather the skills and knowledge acquired over four years and apply it to a singular or team project that results in research products or oftentimes devices. Capstone experiences utilize the core research labs and the MakerSpaces.
